STEPS Network Meeting February 16, 2005

Purpose: The South Texas Exploration and Production Safety Network, commonly known as the STEPS Network, promotes safety, health and environmental improvement in the exploration and production of oil and gas in South Texas . The STEPS Network fosters a work environment that relies upon open communication and trust.
Marianne McGee, OSHA Compliance Assistance Specialist, Corpus Christi Area Office
Two work-related fatalities were reported to the CC Area Office since January 19, 2005 . One was oil and gas related.
- Employee riding on the back of a brush hog fell off and was crushed.
- Employee working at a tank battery, explosion occurred.
Ted Reed, BJ Services:
Shared recent incidents that resulted in injuries and discussed the basic causes, intermediate causes, actions taken, and the path forward.
- The path forward would include: teamwork, being your brother's keeper, performance improvement team audits, go cards emphasis, allegiance to change vis-à-vis policy, do what you say you are going to do.

Tony Jones, Santos USA :
- Employees conducted Stepback analysis and identified trip hazards but did not eliminate the hazard. An employee received a bruise to his leg resulting in a small bruise and abrasion which several days later developed cellulitis.

- Study conducted to evaluate effects of FRC on heat stress.
